Most people find themselves with a lot of unanswered questions, so we have complied this list of helpful hints and advice for you. Following these tips can help prevent further damage to your belongings and will help insure that your restoration can be completed quickly and smoothly.

Stop the incoming flow of water
- Notify your property insurer
- Ask what your responsibilities include
- Begin the process of determining if your loss is covered and to what extent it is covered

Remove as much water as possible by mopping and blotting

Wipe excess water from wood furniture

Place foil or plastic under furniture legs to prevent staining

Hang furs and leathers to dry in a separate area at room temperature

If possible keep the indoor temperature under 70 degrees. Turning on air conditioning systems in the summer time will help the area dry.

Turn off electricity at breakers in effected areas

Floor length drapes should be placed through plastic hangers and hung on rods

Remove small rugs, boxes, books or other items that might stain carpet

Be extremely careful of wet and slippery floors especially when traveling from wet areas onto linoleum, tile, or wood floors

Move valuable paintings and art objects to dry in a safe place

Gather loose toys and objects from the floor
- Keep an activity log, including a record of all contact with your insurance company
- Keep a copy of all receipts
- Don’t throw away removed or damaged materials until instructed by your insurance company
- Photograph the damaged area
- Protect repairable and undamaged items from further damage

Do Not use electronics or other household appliances while standing on wet carpets or floors, especially on concrete

Do Not use your household vacuum as this may cause electrical shock

Do Not turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet, and keep out of rooms where ceilings are sagging from retained water

Do Not place wet items on uneffected carpet
