How We Dry Water Damaged Areas
Whether it’s your basement, attic, or living room that has gotten wet, Aladdin’s has a plan to dry it. Aladdin’s technicians will first evaluate the site, taking all factors into consideration. Then using principals based on the Vortex Drying System we will create a Drying Chamber. By creating a drying chamber we are allowing the effected area to dry efficiently.
A drying chamber separates wet areas from dry areas and allows the area to dry quicker. It also allows Aladdin’s to control and monitor the conditions in the area such as temperature and Grains Per Pound (GPP - for more information on GPP, see Psychrometry). The chamber also allows most furnishings and contents to be dried on location with the surrounding structure.
The chamber can be made many ways and will vary by job. If the effected area is a single room and the damage covers the majority of the room, the room will be sealed off to form the drying chamber. Closing doors, windows, and erecting a vapor barrier, if needed, to block off any additional openings are the first steps that are taken. Aladdin’s has many different ways of forming a barrier; the actual steps taken will vary with the needs of the job. There can also be more than one drying chamber on the same job if it would speed up the drying process.
Once the drying chamber has been established Aladdin’s is better able to control and monitor the temperature and Grains Per Pound levels. Using Psychrometry the appropriate amount of equipment needed will then be placed on the job. Psychrometry is the study of the relationship between air, humidity, and temperature, and their effect on various materials and comfort levels (For more information on GPP or Psychrometrics visit the Psychrometry page).
By taking psychrometric readings Aladdin’s is able to tell how effectively our equipment is working and how quickly we are seeing a decrease in the GPP of moisture in the air. We record these readings onto a Daily Humidity Recorder that will show you that the structure is drying. We also generate a Moisture Map that shows the layout of the structure and where the effected areas are.
HomeOwner Hint:
If a drying chamber is not used, the equipment will be trying to dry the entire structure instead of only the effected area. It is important that if a job calls for a drying chamber, it is used, and used properly. Drying conditions will be altered and drying will be slowed if the drying chamber isn’t properly sealed and air is able to move in or out of the area. If you would like proof that the drying process being used is working, be sure to ask for a copy of the Daily Humidity Log. It is also important to make sure the extraction process is completed efficiently.
